Robocon teams look to make mark in frontier tech

The ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest, or Robocon, is set to take place in Wan Chai on Sunday, with all competing university teams eager to leave a lasting impact on the burgeoning frontier technology sector. Organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, the event features 16 university teams from 15 countries and regions, united under this year's theme of "Kung Fu Quest."

One of the competing teams hails from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where a former champion student named Leung asserts that the contest's return to Hong Kong's Queen Elizabeth Stadium after a 14-year hiatus gives his team a competitive advantage. The convenience of transporting tools to the venue by land instead of by airplane has streamlined their logistics, he explains.

Despite the pressure of being just one step away from the top spot last year, Henry, the coach of the University of Hong Kong team, remains unfazed. He believes that with each team member focusing on their designated task and understanding their responsibilities, victory is within reach. The contest, co-organized by RTHK and the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, is the largest university robotics competition in the region, having been founded in 2002.
