Osun Guber: ADP candidate disputes Osun election 6th position ranking

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate in the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election, Adeagbo Opawoye Yemisi, has challenged claims that she secured the sixth position. According to Opawoye, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared her as the fourth-place finisher among 15 contestants. In a statement, she reported receiving 2,946 votes as documented in the INEC Form EC8E, which details the election results.

The statement was released in Osogbo and included a copy of the EC8E form signed by the State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole. Opawoye acknowledged that some media outlets had erroneously reported her 6th place finish and emphasized the need to correct this. She clarified that her ADP party placed fourth with 2,946 votes, followed by the Zenith Labour Party with 2,482 votes and the Action Alliance with 2,308 votes.

The ADP candidate requested journalists, political figures, and the public to refer to the official INEC Form EC8E Declaration of Result when reporting candidate rankings. This clarification aims to ensure the public record accurately reflects the actual votes cast and counted by INEC. The eventual winner of the election was Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor running on the Accord platform, who garnered 511,067 votes.
