NHRC directs Punjab govt to probe allegation against CM's wife of demanding ₹5 cr to suppress rape case

Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, the President of the Punjab Congress, has issued a legal notice for defamation to ex-IPS officer Mohammad Mustafa, who is a party member and married to former Congress MLA Razia Sultana. The notice, received on August 21, was served through lawyer Nikhil Ghai of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Mustafa allegedly made personal attacks on Warring's intelligence, competence, judgment, and leadership abilities during an interview on 'Waqt De Bol,' which was broadcast and widely shared on television and digital platforms.

Warring, who represents Ludhiana in the Lok Sabha, claims the remarks were not objective policy criticism but an attempt to portray him as incapable of political judgment. The notice asserts that as a long-serving public figure, Warring's reputation is at stake, and the statements carry more weight due to Mustafa's high-ranking police background.

Warring's legal team demands Mustafa to stop repeating, publishing, or spreading the defamatory remarks and to issue an unreserved public apology. The notice also urges news channels and media outlets to remove the interview content, but emphasizes that removal alone does not absolve Mustafa from the original statements. Mustafa, a 1985 IPS graduate who retired as DGP (Human Rights) in 2021, has been involved in Punjab Congress politics recently.
