Kuwait Ends Visit Visa and Absence Permit Extensions

Kuwait has decided to end the extensions for visit visas and absence permits that were introduced following attacks from Iran and the closure of airspace in the region. The Ministry of Interior stated that starting September 1, 2026, the original rules governing the length of entry visas and absence permits will be returned. The decision comes after Kuwait and other Gulf states were attacked by drones and missiles in response to the US-Iran conflict that began in February 2026.

In March, Kuwait automatically extended the visit visas for visitors who had entered the country due to the unique circumstances. Residents unable to return were also given three-month absence permits, which did not require in-person processing or any fees.

The Ministry of Interior announced on August 20 that regular legal periods for entry visas and absence permits will resume from September 1. However, the extra time for absence permits will continue for residents who left Kuwait on or before August 31, 2026. The ministry assured that the residency permit certificate obtained through the Sahel app is the official and approved method to determine when a resident's absence permit will expire.

It is essential for residents to comply with the designated period when they return to the country, as stated by the ministry.
