‘I never insulted Afenyo-Markin, he got the response he deserved’ – Sammy Gyamfi

Deputy Minister for Local Government and NDC aspiring national chairman, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, issued an apology on August 20, 2026, to Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of GoldBod, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The apology came after comments Vanderpuye made during an interview on Channel One TV that were perceived as critical of Gyamfi and the company.

In his statement, Vanderpuye acknowledged that his words did not convey his true intentions and expressed sincere regret for any misunderstanding. He clarified that his objective was to defend GoldBod and its CEO, but his communication had resulted in a different impression. Specifically, Vanderpuye apologized to Gyamfi, emphasizing that the latter is a dedicated and courageous member of the NDC who has served the party with commitment.

Furthermore, he apologized to the NDC leadership, members, and grassroots members who may have been disappointed or hurt by his remarks. Vanderpuye highlighted that party members expect their leaders to demonstrate solidarity, good judgement, and loyalty, particularly when faced with political attacks. He further stressed that he has long supported the NDC, even during challenging times, and that his loyalty to the party remains steadfast.

The controversy arose after the parliamentary Minority, led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin, accused GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi of being responsible for a GH¢22 billion loss at the institution. Gyamfi subsequently responded to these allegations on the government's accountability series, defending the company and its work.

However, Vanderpuye's comments on Channel One TV prompted concerns among some NDC supporters, leading to the issuance of his apology.
