KP Seeks World Bank Loan For Flood Protection Projects

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced its intention to seek a loan from the World Bank in order to finance various projects aimed at flood protection and irrigation rehabilitation in areas affected by flooding. The proposal for this loan was set to be discussed during a recent provincial cabinet meeting, but the meeting was postponed, meaning the proposal will now be presented at the upcoming cabinet session for approval.

Officials from the government have stated that the funds obtained through this loan would be utilized to enhance flood protection infrastructure, repair damaged irrigation systems, and bolster the province's capacity to manage future floods, thereby minimizing the economic losses caused by natural disasters.

In addition to the loan request, the provincial cabinet is also deliberating on the establishment of a new tehsil, named Umarzai, within the Charsadda district. This decision has been included on the agenda for the next cabinet meeting.

Other matters that will be taken up during the upcoming cabinet session include amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Counter Terrorism Wing Service Rules, 2026, as well as a review of a proposal to host three South Asian Games events in Peshawar. The cabinet will also need to approve the necessary funding for the organization of these competitions.
