JMU Announcement Shows Dukes Aren't Going Anywhere

The James Madison Dukes, a college football program, have shown remarkable success and resilience since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2022. They quickly became the first team to ever be ranked in their inaugural season. In the 2023 season, they hosted College GameDay and played in the Armed Forces Bowl. Despite the departure of coach Curt Cignetti and the loss of key players, the Dukes continued to win under new coach Bob Chesney, even making it to the College Football Playoff in 2025. However, Chesney's departure for UCLA has raised questions about the team's future.

Despite these changes, the Dukes have remained strong, with season ticket sales for the 2025 season reaching a fourth consecutive sellout. This streak of sellouts spans three different head coaches, indicating a resilient fan base. The school has announced this impressive feat in a recent news release, hinting at the continued success of the program under new coach Billy Napier, who comes from the Florida Gators.

For those wanting to attend JMU football games this fall, ticket purchases are still available for some home games. However, certain games, such as the Oct. 3 Family Weekend matchup with Marshall, have already sold out. The Dukes set a new record in the 2025 season, selling out all six home games, with the goal of matching this success in the 2026 campaign.

As the Dukes rapidly reach milestones that some established teams have yet to accomplish, they are on track for potential national championship success. With growing demand, there is also a possibility of expanding Bridgeforth Stadium, currently holding about 25,000 fans, to accommodate the increasing fan base.
