Japan’s leader Takaichi explains why she spends long hours in seclusion at her official residence

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has revealed that she spends long hours in seclusion at her official residence next to her office to maximize efficiency. The official residence, a brick-and-stone mansion, serves as her primary workplace due to its proximity, eliminating the need for a commute and allowing her to work and have meetings directly upon arrival.

Takaichi has enhanced office functions at the residence to accommodate remote or in-person work with her staff, even outside of regular office hours. She also reads documents at home. However, her decision to work extensively from the residence has sparked criticism, with her support ratings plummeting as she implements unpopular policies like a revision to the Imperial House Law and delays economic measures to address rising prices.

Takaichi, who frequently posts on X instead of engaging in traditional media interviews, has been largely absent from parliamentary sessions, leading to fewer interactions with other lawmakers and officials. Despite the residence's haunted reputation, Takaichi remains undeterred, claiming she has never seen a ghost but has encountered cockroaches on multiple occasions.
