2027: Drama as APC’s Hunye unveils running mate for Ogun guber poll

Abayomi Hunye, a former governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress in Ogun State, has denied claims that he has stepped aside from the 2027 race, stating he remains in contention. The Ogun West Senatorial District native made the announcement during a press conference in Abeokuta, attended by numerous party supporters.

Hunye also introduced his running mate for the election, Abayomi Odunowo, who will serve as the deputy governor. This announcement comes amid controversy surrounding Hunye's initial withdrawal from the race, which was later disputed. Hunye obtained the APC governorship nomination form despite the party's consensus arrangement with the party's leadership in the state.

This move was in contrast to the recent selection of Solomon Adeola, a senator representing Ogun West, as the consensus APC governorship candidate. Hunye's decision to step away from the race was met with outrage, and he subsequently filed a lawsuit against the party and Adeola, claiming irregularities and disenfranchisement in the primary election.

However, Hunye clarified during the press conference that he is still in the race and intends to participate in the campaign phase of the election, as required by the amended Electoral Act.
