Govt Deploys Army in Rawalpindi

The government has authorized the Pakistan Army to deploy troops in Rawalpindi, responding to a request from the Punjab government for enhanced security measures. The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control issued a notification authorizing the deployment under Article 245 of the Constitution. This decision follows a formal letter from the Punjab Home Department seeking military assistance, dated July 22, 2026.

Three companies of the Pakistan Army will be tasked with handling sensitive security duties in Rawalpindi. The deployment is set to begin immediately and will last for six months.
