Ex-West Brom midfielder dies at 25

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro has passed away at the young age of 25 following a tragic incident during a pre-season friendly match in Portugal. The incident occurred on Saturday when Castro, who was playing for Real Sport Clube against Estrela da Amadora, collapsed during the first half of the game. He was immediately attended to by medical staff but succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to a local hospital.

The Lisbon Football Association confirmed Castro's death in a statement, while Real Sport Clube described him as more than just a player, but an integral part of their club family. The match was immediately halted in light of the tragedy. West Brom expressed their profound devastation upon learning of the news.

Castro, who joined West Brom in 2021, had made his debut for the club against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and also featured in a Championship match against Swansea City. Prior to his time at West Brom, he had spent periods on loan with Burton Albion, Notts County, and Gateshead, as well as playing for York City. He represented several other English clubs before eventually returning to Portugal.

Castro had turned 25 just six days prior to his untimely demise. His former clubs and colleagues have been quick to pay tribute to the midfielder, with Estrela da Amadora expressing their deepest condolences to Castro’s family, friends, and the entire Real Sport Clube community. The cause of death has not yet been officially determined.
