Elderly man, neighbour trapped on 14th‑floor ledge rescued unharmed by Penang firefighters

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 22 — A 78-year-old man and his neighbor found themselves trapped on the 14th floor exterior corridor of a building in Jalan Lenggong Symphony Park, Jelutong, on Aug 22. Penang Fire and Rescue Department's Operations assistant director John Sagun Francis reported that the emergency call came in at 1.28 pm, prompting the deployment of eight firefighters from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station.

The incident occurred when the elderly man, attempting to exit his room through a rear window to open the front door from outside, discovered his room door was locked. His 50-year-old neighbor tried to assist, but both men eventually grew exhausted and became trapped in the area. Firefighters entered the house through the front door, successfully rescuing the two men, who were unharmed.

The victims were then handed over to the police for further action. The rescue operation concluded at 1.52 pm.
