ECG announces emergency power outage in parts of Accra on Sunday; see affected areas

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has declared an emergency power outage across certain areas of Accra on Sunday, August 23, 2026. This decision was made by the company to allow the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to repair a damaged transmission tower on the Tema–Achimota 161kV transmission line, situated at Ashaiman. The transmission tower was destroyed as a result of a fuel tanker explosion during welding work on the tank's location within the transmission line's right-of-way.

The planned outage will commence at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday and is anticipated to continue until 6:00 p.m. The regions that are expected to be impacted include James Town, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Sempe, portions of Kaneshie, North Industrial Area, Okaishie, Agbogbloshie, Kantamanto, Adabraka, Ridge, Tesano, Santana Market, sections of Alajo, Malam Atta Market, Asylum Down and neighboring communities.

ECG has expressed regret for the disruption the scheduled outage may cause for their customers. The company is requesting those affected to take note of the outage period and make any necessary arrangements in advance.
