Benalmadena Pueblo will soon be transformed into an enchanting Arab souk from August 27 to 30. The annual Zoco Arabe event will bring lanterns, spices and the aroma of mint tea to the historic quarter's streets. Craft stalls, music, and street performances will fill the town, with activities starting at 7pm on Thursday and continuing throughout the weekend.
Councillor Raul Campos described the event as an eagerly anticipated summer highlight, aimed at bringing life to the historic center, attracting visitors, and boosting local businesses.
Falconry enthusiasts can watch bird of prey demonstrations and learn about these majestic creatures' role in medieval life. Children will find entertainment in archery, pottery sessions, henna painting, and wood-carving demonstrations. The Calle Real area will also offer a children's corner featuring an eco-friendly carousel, games tables, and a costumed photo spot.
The event will feature Arabic rhythms provided by Al Folk, with musicians and belly dancers performing throughout the day. As the evening progresses, from 10.30pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Plaza de Andalucia will become an open-air stage for Sephardic music concerts. Hungry visitors can enjoy tavern cuisine or traditional Moroccan-style tea at the market's taverns area or the medieval-style food stalls near the church, sampling dishes like spiced pastries and grilled meats.
Campos invited residents and travelers to visit Benalmadena Pueblo during the event, describing it as an opportunity to experience the old town anew while supporting local trade and hospitality businesses during the peak season.
