2027: Tinubu can’t campaign away Nigeria’s hardship, poverty – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election campaign cannot absolve Nigeria of the hardship and poverty experienced under his administration. ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi stated this in a recent statement, emphasizing that the 2027 general election would be a referendum on Tinubu's performance during his first term.

The party criticized the inclusion of some former government officials with corruption allegations in Tinubu's campaign council, describing it as a rehabilitation center for those with unresolved corruption issues. The ADC questioned how the government cleared these individuals of corruption charges if the allegations were still unresolved.

They alleged that investigations into financial misconduct under the Tinubu administration often fade without clear explanations, only for the involved individuals to regain political relevance. Tinubu's campaign activities, the ADC argued, would not erase the economic difficulties Nigerians face, such as the cost-of-living crisis and widespread poverty.

The opposition party supported Atiku Abubakar's proposal for a targeted fuel subsidy to reduce petrol prices and the overall cost of living. The ADC believed that every naira spent on the subsidy should be traceable and every barrel of fuel accounted for, urging the government to first address its own spending before claiming the country could not afford such measures.
