Yoruba Tennis Club Centenary: Chairman Reaffirms Commitment to Culture, Brotherhood

Chief Olawumi Gasper, Chairman of the Yoruba Tennis Club, has called upon members to utilize the club's centenary celebration to reinforce the core values of culture, tradition, and brotherhood that have guided the organization throughout its 100-year history. This centenary cultural week, themed '100 Years of Brotherhood, Culture and Continuity,' offers a unique platform for the club's members to honor its storied past while recommitting to the preservation of Yoruba cultural values and the fortification of bonds among its members.

The centenary festivities will unfold from August 23 through 30, with a diverse array of events designed to celebrate Yoruba heritage and the enduring legacy of the club. Gasper emphasized that the celebration would not only mark a significant milestone but also serve as a means to strengthen the ties that have sustained the organization across generations.

Members are urged to actively engage in the week-long program, which features a series of cultural events aimed at fostering a deeper appreciation for Yoruba traditions.

The initial day of the cultural week kicks off on August 23 with the Abalabi dance, followed by a cultural colloquium on August 25, where Dr. Peter Fatomilola of the Department of Dramatic Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University will deliver a keynote address. The day dedicated to traditional celebration is set for August 28, with the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, serving as the Royal Father of the day.

The festivities will reach a crescendo on August 30, culminating in the Ikase ceremony and an inter-faith service.
