West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta vehemently condemned the recent violence at Jadavpur University (JU) in a video message on Friday. The incident, which occurred a day prior, involved a clash between two student groups, ABVP and SFI. Dasgupta expressed his deep sorrow, stating that such a physical confrontation between these two factions is highly regrettable as it tarnishes the reputation of the university and the state.

Referring to the recent agitation surrounding JU, Dasgupta pointed out that the historic university emblem, originally designed by renowned artist Nandalal Bose, has been desecrated. He emphasized that this act is a blatant disrespect to the institution's rich heritage.

Political reactions to the violence intensified, with West Bengal's Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh threatening further "surgical strikes" against JU should anti-national slogans resurface. Ghosh also mentioned that the former Trinamool Congress (TMC) government had previously aided anti-nationals in infiltrating the university. Notably, the SFI office had been demolished, and he vowed to repeat such actions if similar incidents occur again.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sarbari Mukherjee, who had previously threatened more protests if SFI leader did not surrender to the police, claimed that she has always advocated for peaceful protest methods.
