‘Unbelievably cruel’: Iltija slams move to shift former Pakistan PM Imran Khan back to jail

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) strongly criticized the government for disregarding Supreme Court orders regarding the relocation of incarcerated party chief Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital. The Supreme Court had directed the authorities to move Imran to the private facility, a move that garnered significant attention due to the heavy police presence on Thursday night.

However, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar disclosed on Friday that Imran was instead transported to the government-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims). It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court had explicitly stated that Imran’s medical records or any information related to his health should not be utilized for political purposes.

His sister, Uzma Khan, who accompanied him for his medical examination, addressed a press conference in Islamabad alongside his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan. Uzma revealed that they were directed to Adiala Jail around 8:30 pm on Friday and subsequently taken to a deputy superintendent of police’s room. Sibtain, the individual in charge, escorted Dr Sultan outside while Uzma remained inside.

After a brief wait, a female assistant sub-inspector escorted Uzma to a car, which took her to Pims. Uzma questioned the decision, pointing out that the Supreme Court had mandated treatment at Shifa International Hospital. Upon arrival at Pims, darkness surrounded the facility, and Uzma was led to an office where a man lit the way with his mobile phone.

The room was unfamiliar to her, and she assumed it belonged to a department head at Pims. After a while, they were taken upstairs, where Imran was present, visibly shocked. Upon their reunion, Imran stated that they had not seen each other in ten months. Uzma informed him that he was there for a check-up and would subsequently be transferred to Shifa International Hospital.

However, she also inquired about Dr Sultan, but received no response. They were then taken to another office, where an examination of Imran’s eye was conducted. Two to three doctors were present, but Uzma was unfamiliar with their identities. They were directed to administer an injection and conduct further tests, claiming that Imran's eye condition and haemorrhage situation had improved.
