Two cyclists die in Putrajaya after vehicle hits them while changing lanes, say police

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 21 — Two male cyclists lost their lives in a tragic accident last night after being struck by a vehicle while changing lanes at kilometre 9.0 of Jalan Persiaran Selatan, Putrajaya, according to Putrajaya district police chief ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed. In a statement released today, Aidi Sham detailed that the incident took place at 10.15pm and involved a vehicle operated by a local man in his 40s, as well as two male cyclists aged 40 and 30 respectively.

Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle had abruptly changed direction from the middle lane to the left lane, resulting in the cyclists colliding with the vehicle. As a consequence, both cyclists were pronounced dead at the scene due to extensive injuries to their faces and heads, stated Aidi Sham. The police have initiated investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and are appealing for any witnesses or members of the public with pertinent information to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.

Aidi Sham urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Putrajaya Traffic Police Station at 03-88862138 or any nearby police station.
