Two cyclists die in Putrajaya after vehicle hits them while changing lanes, say police

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 21 — Two male cyclists lost their lives after colliding with a vehicle while changing lanes at kilometre 9.0 of Jalan Persiaran Selatan in Putrajaya, reported Putrajaya district police chief ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed. Speaking in a statement on the matter, Aidi Sham provided details of the accident, which occurred at 10.15pm.

The incident involved a local man in his 40s who was driving a vehicle and two male cyclists, aged 40 and 30 respectively. Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle had shifted from the middle lane to the left lane before the collision took place. Following the incident, both cyclists succumbed to their severe injuries suffered to their faces and heads at the scene, Aidi Sham confirmed.

The police are continuing their investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and have appealed for the public and witnesses with pertinent information to come forward and assist in the investigation. They can do so by contacting the Putrajaya Traffic Police Station at 03-88862138 or any nearby police station, Aidi Sham urged.
