Tiktoker under police probe after allegedly stepping on Sarawak flag

Kuching police have opened an investigation into a TikTok user after he uploaded a video appearing to show a man disrespecting Sarawak by deliberately stepping on the Ibu Pertiwi flag, according to authorities. Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said two reports have been received regarding the incident, which is now being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The first section criminalizes intentional insults that provoke a breach of peace, with potential penalties of up to two years in prison, a fine, or both. The second section addresses the misuse of network facilities and services to transmit content that is obscene, menacing, offensive, indecent, or false, with a maximum penalty of RM50,000, a year in prison, or both upon conviction.

Alexson advised the public to refrain from actions that could disrupt peace, provoke anger, or incite unrest. He noted that the individual involved has previously uploaded similar content, which he then deleted within hours. The TikTok user is reportedly no stranger to controversy, having allegedly harassed cosplayers at anime events. It is understood that the man featured in the video is disabled.
