Swaggering Arsenal want title attack, not defence

Arsenal has completed the £55 million signing of defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on Friday. The 28-year-old player was officially introduced to the club on the first day of the season, just before their opening match against Coventry. Konsa has committed to a four-year contract with the option of an additional year. He has been assigned the number 15 shirt by manager Mikel Arteta.

Konsa spent seven years at Aston Villa, winning the UEFA Europa League title with the team prior to his transfer. The North London side, which had the best defensive record last season, welcomed the defender with a positive outlook. Sporting director Andrea Berta praised Konsa's high-quality abilities, athleticism, composure, and tactical intelligence, stating that he is expected to integrate immediately and contribute to the team's success.

The Dutch defender expressed his excitement about joining Arsenal, emphasizing his desire to continue winning and his pride in representing one of the best teams in the world. Konsa had previously won the Europa League with Villa last season and represented England at the 2026 World Cup. He had spent a total of 286 matches at Villa before his move to the Premier League champions.
