Singapore jails and canes man for abusing boy, 6

In a Singapore court, a 31-year-old man was sentenced to nine years and 10 months in jail, along with eight strokes of the cane, for abusing multiple young boys under his care. The man, who worked for a company owned by his aunt, provided accommodation for young foreign students. He beat his youngest victim, a six-year-old boy, over 600 times with a hanger, forcing him to hold a push-up position for extended periods, and made him sleep in the toilet and drink his own urine.

The boy suffered severe injuries, including to his ribs, lungs, and kidneys, and was hospitalized for 46 days. The man also abused two other boys, aged 10 and 11. He pleaded guilty to making a false declaration about hiring a foreign domestic worker. District Judge John Ng emphasized the severity of the man's actions against his youngest victim, stating that the most serious offenses were committed against this child.

The judge noted that the man's personal background, including alleged abuse from his alcoholic father and gangster older brother, was not an excuse for his cruel acts on his victims. CCTV footage captured most of the man's actions, which were described as "the extent of the depravity" and "cruelty" inflicted on young victims. The man's defense argued for a sentence of 7 years and 2 weeks in prison and caning, but was rejected by the judge.
