Several injured after crane collapses in Mumbai’s Kurla

In the early hours of Friday, a large crane belonging to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) collapsed onto a house in Kurla's Qureshi Nagar, leaving over ten people injured. The incident occurred near the Central Railway tracks, prompting a swift rescue operation in the densely populated area. Authorities from Central Railway clarified that the crane had fallen onto the overhead electric equipment (OHE) of a single railway line between Kurla and Trombay, which is primarily used for goods transport.

Consequently, there was no impact on regular passenger train services. Rescue teams, comprising cops and firefighters, worked tirelessly at the accident site, which was littered with debris. Initially, there were concerns about trapped individuals under the falling debris, but officials later confirmed that no one was feared caught in the wreckage.

The exact cause of the crane's collapse remains under investigation by the MMRDA, which has launched an inquiry into the incident. The MMRDA is scrutinizing the condition of the crane, the ongoing construction work at the site, and various safety protocols to ascertain what led to the unfortunate event.
