Sennheiser gives its flagship true wireless earbuds a full revamp, complete with Bluetooth 6 and replaceable batteries

Sennheiser has unveiled the Momentum True Wireless 5, their latest true wireless earbuds. The new earbuds have a completely redesigned enclosure and offer several improvements over their predecessor. They feature Bluetooth 6.0 with aptX Adaptive, Dolby Atmos, and replaceable batteries. The earbuds are available for purchase starting September 3 at the same price as the previous generation in the US, but with a higher price in the UK and Australia.

The Momentum True Wireless 5 have a "barely there" fit with a newly streamlined silhouette, making them more comfortable than the previous generation. Four ear-tip sizes are included to help users achieve the perfect seal. The earbuds are equipped with Sennheiser's 7mm TrueResponse dynamic driver, which offers a balance of detail, bass, and clarity.

Bluetooth 6.0 enables the earbuds to support high-resolution wireless audio up to 24-bit/96kHz from compatible sources. The ANC system has been revised with a redesigned ear tip and four-mic array per bud to maximize noise cancellation performance. There are eight system sensors, including six microphones and two bone-conduction voice accelerometers, to isolate voice during phone calls.

The earbuds offer up to 12 hours of playback on a single charge (up from 7.5 hours) and a total of 40 hours with the charging case (up from 30 hours). They also feature a replaceable battery system, which should extend their usable lifespan significantly. The earbuds are IP54-rated for dust, sweat, and splash resistance, and have a perforated microphone plate to reduce wind interference during voice calls.

The Momentum True Wireless 5 will be available in Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim, and Lavender finishes for $300 / £250 / AU$499 from September 3.

RISC-V 32-bit: What does GCC do? (Part 1)

1. Introduction and Problem Statement A good way to learn what a compiler really does when transforming C source code into a binary is to disassemble the binary and compare it with the C source code.

  • RISC-V 32-bit architecture has 32 general-purpose 32-bit registers
  • Registers include x0 (zero), x1 (ra), x2 (sp), and t0 to t6 (x5 to x7 and x28 to x31)
  • RISC-V lacks dedicated condition flag registers, using direct register comparisons for branches
