RM12.8 juta barangan seludup dirampas dalam 2 operasi polis
Lima individu ditahan dalam Op Taring Alpha 2 dan Op Taring Alpha 5 yang dijalankan di Kuala Lumpur dan Klang, Selangor.
Kuala Lumpur and Selangor police seized approximately RM12.8 million worth of goods during two separate raids targeting smuggling activities and import regulation violations. Deputy Head of Security for the Interior and Public Safety, Bukit Aman, Muhammad Abdul Halim, reported that Op Taring Alpha 2 on August 5 captured three individuals, two from Myanmar and one local, in a joint operation conducted at two locations in Kuala Lumpur.
This operation resulted in the seizure of various alcoholic beverages and food and beverage products worth around RM5.1 million, including 112 tins and 3,696 bottles of alcoholic beverages totaling approximately RM2.57 million, and 4,092 bottles of Zongpi CR brand alcoholic beverages worth about RM2.7 million. Additionally, various food and beverage products from China worth around RM56,000 were also stolen.
In Op Taring Alpha 5 in Klang, police detained two local men and seized goods worth approximately RM7.7 million. The stolen items included alcoholic beverages from China worth RM2.1 million, 245 packs of white cigarettes with 49,000 sticks worth almost RM300,000, and 1,800 brightly colored hats worth RM1.8 million. Police stated that initial investigations revealed both premises were believed to be used as temporary storage and collection centers before the goods were distributed to local customers.
Most of the goods were allegedly smuggled through the port using false documentation, and the operation was reportedly active for over six months.
Muhammad Abdul Halim revealed that the success of both operations was a result of cooperation between PDRM and various agencies through information sharing and risk management. Since January to August 21 of this year, the Department of Customs, Excise, and Narcotics (KDNKA) Bukit Aman has conducted 240 operations nationwide, arresting 413 individuals, and seizing goods worth a total of RM314 million.
