Rajasthan High Court stays road widening demolitions, mandates ‘10 trees per cut’

The Rajasthan High Court has temporarily suspended the demolition of residential properties in Sri Ganganagar district, pending a review of affected residents' claims. The court mandated that for every tree removed, ten trees must be planted in nearby public areas to ensure a "cleaner, fresher, and oxygen-rich environment" for future generations.

Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand heard a batch of petitions from residents claiming they were not given proper notice before eviction notices were issued due to proposed road widening. The court emphasized that Article 21 of the Constitution protects individuals' life and personal liberty, and proper due process must be followed before any adverse action is taken.
