Punjab Jail Superintendent Arrested Over Alleged Rs. 45 Crore Bribe

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has arrested Gujranwala Jail Superintendent Azhar Javed Cheema in connection with allegations of receiving a Rs. 45 crore bribe. According to reports, Cheema was apprehended from inside Gujranwala Jail and subsequently produced before a court. ACE officials requested a 12-day physical remand, citing the need for time to recover the alleged bribe and gather evidence.

However, the court only granted a five-day physical remand, releasing Cheema to ACE for further investigation. The arrest follows allegations that Cheema received Rs. 450 million from a citizen, Afzal Chaudhry, on August 19. The investigation is ongoing, and further details regarding the alleged payment and potential involvement of other individuals are yet to be determined. The allegations against Cheema have not been proven in court.
