Pune: Over 500 Civic Complaints Pending, Pothole Grievances Rise Amid Accident Concerns

The city of Pune is grappling with a surge in civic complaints, with over 500 grievances still pending resolution on online complaint portals. A significant portion of these complaints, more than 300, have been sitting unresolved for over three weeks. The majority of the issues, numbering in the hundreds, are related to damaged roads, potholes, and the state of health services in the city.

This growing backlog of complaints has sparked concerns among the residents, particularly as the frequency of pothole-related grievances continues to rise. Experts link poor road conditions to a host of problems, from accidents to commuting difficulties.

In response to this mounting issue, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Additional Commissioner Prajit Nair has taken immediate action. Nair has directed all relevant departments to clear the backlog of pending complaints within the coming days. He has also emphasized the importance of ensuring that every complainant receives a proper response, stating that no complaint should be closed without a valid reason or without taking the necessary action.

Department heads have been instructed to give priority to complaints made through the Public Grievance (PG) portal and the Aaple Sarkar platform.

While the government portals have been designed to allow residents to report civic problems without needing to visit municipal ward offices, many citizens have expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of their complaints. There have been reports of some complaints being closed without the issue being properly addressed. In certain cases, grievances were reported as closed before any corrective work had been carried out by the civic officials.

According to the data, 327 complaints are currently pending on the Aaple Sarkar portal, with 161 of these remaining unresolved for more than three weeks. The PG portal has 183 pending complaints, including 150 that have been open for over a month. The bulk of the pending complaints pertain to health and road departments, followed by ward offices and drainage-related issues.

Residents are calling on the PMC to overhaul its grievance redressal system, urging the body to ensure that complaints are only closed after the associated issue has been correctly resolved.
