The Savannah Regional Police Command, backed by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit, has apprehended the mastermind behind a heist that netted GH¢430,000 from two Mobile Money vendors on June 29, 2026 at the Buipe Cattle Market in the Savannah Region. The Anti-Armed Robbery Unit was deployed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to bolster the regional command's investigation.

The perpetrators were armed with pump-action guns, a single-barrel gun, and an AK-47 assault rifle, which they used to terrorize the vendors before making a swift getaway with their ill-gotten gains.

Subsequent surveillance conducted by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit, Police Intelligence Directorate, and Kintampo Divisional Police Command on July 23, 2026, led to the arrest of the suspected ring-leader, Yacouba Oumar, 28, in Soronuase, Bono East Region. During questioning, Oumar confessed to his role in the robbery and provided the names of his co-conspirators: Yakubu Seidu (alias Baba), Abdulai Aziz Yahaya (alias Addo), and Abduli Buipe (alias Addo).

He also revealed that the gang was hired by a cattle trader named Alhaji Yacouba, known by several aliases, to carry out the robbery.

The investigation extended to Atebubu, Soronuase, Agogo, and Dawadawa, where the remaining members of the syndicate, along with the weapons, were believed to be hiding. During a confrontation with the police, suspects Yakubu Seidu, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya, and Oumaro Amadu were killed. Their bodies were taken to the morgue for post-mortem examinations.

Police recovered a pump-action gun, five live BB cartridges, and a single-barrel gun that was allegedly used in the robbery. Oumar is currently in police custody, aiding the ongoing investigation, while efforts are being made to apprehend Alhaji Yacouba and the other suspects.
