Police arrest drug suspect after struggle with machete leaves officer injured in Jeli

KOTA BHARU, Aug 21 — Police have apprehended a suspect involved in drug trafficking after a confrontation at a home in Jeli. The incident occurred at around 11 am when officers from the district's Criminal Investigation Division raided an unidentified residence in Kampung Lubok Bongor. According to Jeli police chief Supt Kamarulzaman Harun, the suspect showed aggression by pulling out a machete and threatening police officers, leading to a struggle and an injury sustained by one of the officers.

The injured officer required treatment for a laceration on his left middle finger and shoulder. Kamarulzaman stated that the suspect was arrested, and the police secured a machete measuring approximately 36 centimeters and a transparent plastic container holding six reddish pills believed to be yaba. The pills were discovered inside a black waist bag.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had a prior record of drug distribution and had previously threatened to kill during a police raid on August 19. The case is being examined under sections of the Penal Code and the Dangerous Drugs Act. The suspect will be detained pending further investigation, as per Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The police emphasized that they will not tolerate any acts of threatening, attacking, or using force against officers while they carry out their duties.
