Police arrest drug suspect after struggle with machete leaves officer injured in Jeli

Kota Bharu, Aug 21 — Police apprehended a drug suspect after a confrontation with officers wielding a machete during a raid in Jeli yesterday. According to Jeli police chief Supt Kamarulzaman Harun, the incident occurred around 11am when officers from the district's Criminal Investigation Division stormed an unidentified house in the village.

The suspect, brandishing a machete at his waist, threatened the officers and resisted arrest, resulting in a struggle that left one officer with an injured middle finger and shoulder. Kamarulzaman reported that the suspect was subdued without further harm and the machete, along with six reddish pills suspected to be yaba, were seized.

Preliminary investigations indicated the suspect was previously wanted for drug trafficking and had threatened to kill during a raid on August 19. The suspect is now being held under the Criminal Procedure Code for further investigations. Kamarulzaman emphasized that police will not tolerate any threats or violence against public servants while they carry out their duties.
