Microsoft and Discord subpoenaed over GTA VI gameplay leaks

The alleged GTA 6 leaker, known as 'CyberLeek', has released two additional gameplay videos despite legal subpoenas from Rockstar's owner, Take-Two. On August 22, CyberLeek posted a video showcasing supercar gameplay and an armed robbery, followed by a clip from a strip club showing a character saying they need to 'take a leak'.

This second cutscene has raised concerns that the leaker may have access to a build of the game and may post significant story spoilers. This is the eighth gameplay video to leak this week, all of which feature the 'CyberLeek' memecoin, which many consider to be a crypto scheme.

Take-Two issued Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord on August 20, requesting identifying information from users involved in the recent leak of GTA 6 gameplay videos. The subpoenas target user accounts connected to various Discord servers, including one related to Australian GTA content creator Matthew 'DarkViperAU' Judge.

Judge has denied any involvement in the leaks. Take-Two also sent a DMCA takedown notice to GitHub on August 19, demanding the removal of the stolen content and disabling the entire repository. The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York granted the Microsoft subpoena on August 21, while Discord stated that they comply with valid DMCA subpoenas as per standard company practice.

Xbox's Chief Technical Officer, Scott Van Vliet, expressed support for Take-Two and Rockstar Games in protecting creative works and intellectual property. However, neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has issued a public statement regarding the leaks. The source, IGN, has reached out to both companies for comment. Rockstar is still uncertain about how the leaks occurred and who is behind them.

Despite the ongoing situation, there are no plans to alter the scheduled Netflix reveal for GTA 6, which is set for Thursday, August 27. The event will remain exclusive on Netflix for six hours before becoming available on other platforms like YouTube. GTA 6 is expected to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
