Man wanted over drug ring ties held after brandishing parang at cops

A man sought for alleged connections to a drug distribution network in Jeli, Kelantan, was apprehended by police during a dawn raid, according to reports. Chief Kamarulzaman Harun of the Jeli police revealed that a squad from the district criminal investigation unit raided an inconspicuous abode in Kampung Lubuk Bongor around 11 a.m. The suspect brandished a parang and threatened the officers with death during the operation, leading to a brief altercation where one cop sustained minor injuries on his hand and shoulder.

No serious harm was inflicted upon the suspect. In the aftermath of the raid, authorities confiscated a 36cm parang and a plastic container containing six red pills, suspected to be narcotics. Further investigation revealed that the individual was on the narcotics criminal investigation division's wanted list for involvement in drug trafficking in Jeli.

Additionally, he was suspected of having brandished a parang and threatened to kill police officers during another raid just two days prior. The case is currently under investigation under Sections 324 and 353 of the Penal Code, which pertain to causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and using criminal force to dissuade public servants from fulfilling their duties.
