Malaysia, Brunei permudah urusan imigresen rentas sempadan

Malaysia and Brunei are streamlining immigration procedures at border checkpoints to facilitate travel between Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei, according to Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan. The minister revealed that there are eight immigration checkpoints that need to be cleared for round-trip journeys. Resolving this issue was among the topics discussed in a recent meeting between the governments of Malaysia and Brunei in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The technical teams from both countries have been instructed to identify the most effective method to ease cross-border movement. Approximately 50% of the most pressing issues related to land borders between the two nations have been resolved, particularly those involving border markers on runways. Hasan explained that these markers will be adjusted using the 2009 reference and findings from the technical assessment on the ground, which will serve as the basis for officially establishing land borders between Malaysia and Brunei.

He also reported that issues concerning cooperation between Petronas Carigali and Brunei's oil company have been resolved, with gas production from the Kledang offshore exploration project expected to begin early 2029.
