Malaysia, Brunei permudah urusan imigresen rentas sempadan

Malaysia and Brunei are streamlining immigration procedures at border checkpoints to facilitate travel between Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei, according to Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan. Hasan stated that there are eight immigration checkpoints that travelers must pass through for round-trip journeys. The coordination of these procedures is among the issues discussed during meetings between the Malaysian and Brunei governments in Bandar Seri Begawan.

Both countries have been directed to identify the most effective method for facilitating border-crossing movement, with almost 50% of the key issues related to land borders between the two nations resolved, particularly those involving the marking of the border on airstrips. Hasan explained that the marking process will be adjusted based on the 2009 reference and findings from the technical assessment at the border, which will serve as the basis for finalizing the land border between Malaysia and Brunei.

Hasan also mentioned that issues related to cooperation between Petronas Carigali and the Brunei oil company have been resolved, with the expected commencement of offshore gas production from the Kledang offshore exploration project in early 2029.
