In May, the Union Cabinet granted the extension to Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN India Ltd) for a 30-year concession, in line with the 30-year concession given to GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited.

MIHAN India Ltd has initiated the process by issuing a tender to select empanelled consultancy firms to conduct a feasibility study and draft an indicative master plan for the monetization of the 271 hectares of land. This includes 122 hectares under the Airports Authority of India (AAI) lease regulations and 149 hectares under the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) regulations.
The excluded land area of approximately 900 hectares is designated for core airport operations and around 100 hectares allocated to GNIAL for commercial airport development. The consultant will assess site potential, evaluate market demand, consider traffic access needs, and formulate land disposal policies for commercial, industrial, residential, and aviation-linked developments.

Though operational assets were transferred promptly, land demarcation issues caused delays in the lease deed. In 2016, GMR Airports Ltd emerged victorious in the bid, but MIHAN India Ltd later revoked the process due to a disagreement over revenue share percentages.
Following a legal challenge in the Bombay High Court, which was later upheld by the Supreme Court, MIHAN India Ltd signed the formal concession agreement with GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited in October 2024.
