Kamal Amrohi’s wife learnt from magazine he’d married Meena Kumari: ‘She took off bangles’

Meena Kumari, a renowned actress of her era, wed filmmaker Kamal Amrohi in 1952. Prior to this, the filmmaker was already married to Sayeda Al-Zehra Mehmoodi and had three children. Tajdar Amrohi, Kamal's son, revealed how his mother learned about his parent's affair. Unbeknownst to his first wife, Tajdar's mother discovered the couple's relationship through a popular Hindu magazine, Shama, or Sushma.

Upon reading the article, she was taken aback. Despite her initial shock, Tajdar's mother did not confront Kamal Amrohi about the affair. Instead, she remained supportive and never questioned him about th matter. Meena Kumari chose to marry Kamal Amrohi, a highly educated and handsome man, recognizing the honor of marrying into his prestigious family.

During Meena's illness, Kamal visited her in Mumbai, and his wife, in a gesture of support, removed her bangles and gave them to her, saying, "The bride is the one who pleases her husband." Despite their separation, Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi were never divorced, according to Tajdar.
