I’ll consider review — Oppong Nkrumah hints at next move after Supreme Court dismisses injunction

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, a Member of Parliament from Ofoase-Ayirebi, has indicated he may seek a review of the Supreme Court's decision that dismissed his application to halt certain criminal trials during the legal vacation. The legal vacation, which ran from August 1 to September 30, saw Justice Gabriel Pwamang dismiss Oppong Nkrumah's interlocutory injunction application on Friday, August 21. The application aimed to prevent selected criminal trials from moving forward during the legal vacation period.

In his ruling, the judge acknowledged that some cases had been treated differently and expedited during the legal vacation, but ultimately concluded that this differential treatment did not violate the constitutional provisions raised in the case. The MP's legal team has requested a certified copy of the ruling to thoroughly examine the court's reasoning. Following advice from their counsel, the team will then determine their next steps, which may include considering a review of the ruling.

Oppong Nkrumah's legal representative, Frank Davies, stated that the team accepted the court's decision for now and would study the full written ruling before advising their client. The decision means that the affected criminal trials can proceed while a separate suit challenging the constitutionality of the Chief Justice's administrative warrants remains pending.

The cases involve high-profile figures such as Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former National Signals Bureau Director-General, and Hanan Abdul-Wahab, former NAFCO Chief Executive Officer. Oppong Nkrumah is expected to make a decision on a potential review after his legal team has reviewed the certified copy of Friday's ruling.
