I’ll consider review — Oppong Nkrumah hints at next move after Supreme Court dismisses injunction

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, a Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, has indicated that he is contemplating a review of the Supreme Court's recent decision to dismiss his application aimed at suspending certain criminal proceedings during the legal vacation period from August 1 to September 30. On August 21, Justice Gabriel Pwamang, presiding in a single capacity, rejected Mr. Nkrumah's interlocutory injunction request which aimed to halt the commencement of selected criminal trials during the aforementioned legal vacation.

The application's central argument hinged on the perceived unfair treatment of certain cases that were expedited during the legal vacation. Mr. Nkrumah's office conveyed to the press that the court's ruling included intriguing assertions, particularly the admission that some cases had been treated differently during the legal vacation.

The court, however, concluded that these disparities did not constitute a breach of the constitutional provisions at the heart of the matter. The legal team, in anticipation of the court's ruling, had requested a certified true copy of the judgment for in-depth analysis. Following receipt of the certified copy, the legal team plans to meticulously review the court's reasoning before deciding on the subsequent steps.

While accepting the court's decision at present, the legal team is considering a review under the advisement of their counsel. The dismissal of the injunction means that the affected criminal trials can proceed as scheduled, while a separate legal challenge against the constitutionality of the Chief Justice's administrative warrants remains unresolved.

This includes trials involving figures such as Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Hanan Abdul-Wahab, and others. Mr. Nkrumah is anticipated to announce his decision on the possibility of a review once his legal team has conducted a comprehensive examination of the certified copy of the Supreme Court's ruling.
