'I won't say no': CSK legend considers England batting coach role

Sydney: Former Australian test cricket star Mike Hussey has indicated he would consider taking on a batting coaching role with England for the upcoming Ashes series. This offer came from England's new coach, Stephen Fleming, who took over from Brendon McCullum in July. The two have a long-standing connection, having worked together at the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League for 15 years.

Hussey, affectionately known as "Mr Cricket" for his extensive cricketing knowledge and passion, expressed that he would not rule out the opportunity if it were truly serious. He emphasized his love for coaching and willingness to assist players from various cricketing nations, stating, "I love the coaching side of the game. I love trying to help players get better whether they are Australians, English, South Africans, Pakistan or India or anywhere, it does not bother me."

Hussey, who scored 6,235 runs in 79 test matches for Australia, revealed that while coaching England against Australia in the Ashes series would feel odd, he would "get on with it" if it were his job. He highlighted that he does not perceive himself as coaching against a rival team, but rather as part of a team, regardless of the opposition.

The coach-to-be acknowledged Fleming's suitability for the role, noting his deep understanding of the game and his ability to balance enjoyment and relationships. He expressed confidence that Fleming could guide England effectively, encouraging them to move forward with a smarter approach, rather than the reckless style seen in recent times.

England is set to face Australia in the Ashes series from June to August the following year, aiming to reclaim the urn for the first time since 2015.
