Hong Kong woman, 33, dies after being mauled by dog at Ta Kwu Ling animal shelter

A 33-year-old woman was found dead at an animal shelter in Ta Kwu Ling, Hong Kong, after she was attacked by a dog, bringing the total of dog-related attacks in the city during the week to several. The incident occurred in Ping Yeung Village, Ta Kwu Ling, and police described various degrees of lacerations on the woman's head, jaw, neck, and arms, as well as bite marks from the animal.

Assistant District Commander Matthew Chan revealed that CCTV footage showed the woman feeding the dog and attempting to lead it into a cage, but it refused to enter and turned aggressive, attacking her for about a minute. The dog, a one-year-old male, was brought to the shelter by volunteers on August 11 and was awaiting adoption.

This attack adds to other recent dog attacks, including a large dog killing two smaller dogs in Yuen Long earlier in the week, and a 53-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman injured by unleashed dogs in Shek O and Jardine's Lookout, respectively. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death, and the dog will be examined by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.

The woman was the licensed people-in-charge at the shelter and was the only one working there at the time of the attack. Six other dogs were present but were all caged. The dog owner was arrested on suspicion of violating the city’s Dangerous Dogs Regulation, and the canine, a 60-kilogram mixed-breed Spanish Mastiff, is in AFCD custody.
