Government calls for global action against terrorism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari have urged global action against terrorism on the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism observed annually on August 21. Both emphasized that no territory should be used for terrorism against any country. Pakistan, a country greatly impacted by terrorism, joined the international community in observing this day, pledging solidarity with victims and their families.

The prime minister highlighted that terrorism was one of humanity's most serious challenges, noting that the families of those who lost loved ones, as well as those with lifelong injuries, deserved compassion and solidarity. Pakistan's armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and innocent citizens have also tragically lost their lives in acts of terrorism.

The country has suffered economically and socially due to terrorism, but it remains determined to eradicate this menace. The government consistently focuses on the welfare and needs of victims and law enforcement personnel. President Zardari echoed these sentiments, expressing solidarity with survivors, their families, and communities.

He emphasized that terrorism has inflicted lifelong wounds on the nation, mentioning specific incidents like the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and the Army Public School attack in Peshawar. He stressed that no religion, faith, or ideology could justify killing innocent people, calling for the international community to condemn terrorism without distinction and prevent the use of territories for terrorism.

The president also highlighted that remembrance should lead to responsibility and recovery, ensuring that victims and survivors receive comprehensive support, including medical, psychosocial, educational, and livelihood assistance.
