Ghana midfielder Partey joins Al-Shabab

Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey has committed to a one-year contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab, according to a statement released by the club on Friday. Partey's move comes after he concluded his tenure with Spanish side Villarreal at the end of last season. The 33-year-old footballer currently faces seven charges of rape and two of sexual assault in Britain, allegations he has vehemently denied.

Partey pleaded not guilty to the charges, which involve three women. The midfielder was unable to participate in Ghana's World Cup match against Panama in June due to his visa application being denied by Canadian authorities. Under Canadian law, foreign nationals can be deemed inadmissible without a prior foreign conviction. Partey contributed with 32 appearances during his stay at LaLiga club Villarreal last season, but the team decided not to extend his contract.
