EFF rejects Ramaphosa’s objection to Madonsela as evidence leader

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has firmly rejected President Cyril Ramaphosa's objection to Advocate Thandazani Madonsela being appointed as the Evidence Leader in the Section 89 Impeachment Committee. The EFF claims Ramaphosa's claims of a personal vendetta and past ANC legal work are merely speculative and do not constitute a conflict of interest.

EFF Treasurer-General Omphile Maotwe stated that Ramaphosa's reservations are merely an attempt to hinder the committee's work. The EFF maintains that Parliament cannot conduct a constitutional process based on suspicion and that the committee had already democratically appointed Madonsela. EFF Deputy President Godrich Gardee dismissed Ramaphosa's arguments as grasping at straws to evade accountability.

Gardee emphasized that the necessary cooling-off period of four years has passed since the removal of Madonsela from her previous role. He also highlighted that the President is responsible for appointing, replacing, and removing committee members, and the past actions of those appointed and removed by Ramaphosa do not suggest any lingering resentment from the President.
