BMC Launches Special Drive To Inspect Mumbai Clinics, Hospitals And Diagnostic Centres For Rule Violations

Mumbai's municipal government has initiated a special inspection campaign targeting clinics, nursing homes, hospitals, maternity homes, and diagnostic centres throughout the city. The initiative, ordered by the state Health Department, aims to enforce adherence to health, safety, and regulatory standards. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will deploy teams to scrutinize various healthcare facilities, checking for compliance with a myriad of legal requirements including those related to clinical establishments, PCPNDT Act, MTP Act, ART Act, Biomedical Waste Management Rules, fire safety norms, and FDA regulations.

Additionally, teams will assess patient safety, essential infrastructure, and the presence of mandatory facilities and safety standards.

The inspections are expected to uncover instances of rule violations, with officials tasked to document and report any infractions in the required format. Establishments found to be non-compliant will face repercussions as stipulated by applicable laws. Daily progress reports detailing the number of establishments inspected, those found violating regulations, and observations made will be compiled and submitted to the designated authorities. These reports will be signed off by the concerned officials.

The drive is anticipated to not only identify establishments operating illegally or without the necessary infrastructure but also aid in weeding out quacks. The Inspector Health Officer will forward these reports to the Executive Health Officer, who will then relay the information to the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Health Services.

The initiative aims to enhance regulatory oversight of private healthcare establishments, ensuring that patients receive treatment in facilities that meet the required standards of infrastructure and safety.
