10 European GridTech startups helping our energy systems cope

Europe's electricity grid is facing significant challenges as the continent transitions to a cleaner energy system. Senior European Commission officials are now focusing on coordination to manage this complexity. Startups are stepping in to develop technologies that can better utilize existing grid infrastructure. Among these innovators are ten European GridTech startups worth noting.

Axle Energy, based in London, creates an energy-flexibility platform that connects distributed assets like EV chargers, home batteries, and heat pumps, transforming them into grid-balancing resources. Bohr Energie, headquartered in Toulouse, specializes in aggregating and optimizing renewable-energy and flexible assets, such as batteries and hybrid generation systems.

Capalo AI, from Helsinki, is developing an AI-powered virtual power plant focused on battery energy-storage systems. Companion.energy, founded in Ghent, helps large enterprises manage their energy procurement, consumption, and distributed assets in real time. Eddy Grid, based in Utrecht, optimizes solar, wind, and battery assets in real time across electricity markets.

Einklang, founded in Cologne, brings battery-enabled energy flexibility to Germany's SMEs through an Energy-as-a-Service model. Entrix, located in Munich, also contributes to the grid-tech landscape. These startups are working to make Europe's power system more measurable, flexible, and easier to balance as the continent navigates the energy transition.
