Woman charged with planning IS-inspired attack on New York state capitol building

Jessica Bowie, a 35-year-old woman, has been charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, according to court documents. The allegations, reported by prosecutors, stem from her conversations with an FBI informant.

According to the complaint, Bowie had reportedly converted to Islam and became a vocal proponent of the Islamic State (ISIS) group online. She allegedly engaged in anti-American rhetoric, including support for the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks. The source alleges that she sought guidance from the informant on bomb-making techniques and aimed to visit the New York State Capitol to observe security measures.

The criminal complaint further details Bowie's plan to stage picnics near the Capitol building to gather intelligence on security protocols. She reportedly acquired items, including a DoorDash bag and bomb-making components, to plant a bomb within the facility. Bowie even considered posing as a food delivery driver to gain access to the building and subsequently flee to Syria.

However, her alleged master plan was foiled when she was arrested on 19 August by FBI agents. In a conversation with the informant, Bowie admitted that she believed there was no point in resisting arrest, stating, "You guys know enough." She was subsequently brought before the court and is scheduled to appear on Thursday. Her legal counsel has not yet responded to requests for comment.
