Tinubu meets ICPC chairman at Aso Rock

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu convened with Dr Musa Aliyu, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The purpose of the meeting remained undisclosed at the time of reporting. This followed Tinubu's directive for a comprehensive forensic investigation into the PFIPC scandal, following a Federal Executive Council meeting the previous day.

The ICPC had previously reported the existence of two additional synthetic agencies operating within governmental institutions. The meeting also occurred two weeks after Aliyu submitted the ICPC’s interim report on the PFIPC investigation to Tinubu on August 6, 2026. In July 7, Tinubu had tasked the ICPC to examine the alleged agency and its promoter, Adeniyi Matthew Adeyemi.

However, the ICPC's interim report revealed that Adeyemi was never officially appointed and that the PFIPC was not legally established. The ICPC also claimed that the appointment letter provided by Adeyemi was fraudulent and originated from no official source. Moreover, they alleged that Adeyemi had created two additional fake agencies - the FCT Investment Promotion Agency and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency and Public-Private Partnership - using forged documents to establish bank accounts.

The commission recommended prosecution for Adeyemi and administrative action against government officials involved in the scandal. They also called for reforms to enhance internal controls in the affected ministries, departments, and agencies. The specifics of the meeting between Tinubu and Aliyu were not disclosed at the time of this report.
