‘노조 가입’ 이주노동자 표적 해고 논란…“일강, 차별 중단하라”

An Uzbek immigrant named Aziz, who has worked at a car spare parts company in Gimje, South Jeolla Province since 2015, warned protesters at a recent rally that his family and community are being targeted. He explained that after being told his employment was at risk due to the company's refusal to renew his visa and contract, he joined the metalworkers union.

However, the company then allegedly forced his withdrawal from the union and denied his request for a visa extension and contract renewal, effectively terminating his employment. This pattern has left 13 out of 78 unionized immigrant workers without contracts, with two more set to leave at the end of the month. The union has demanded an investigation into the company's evaluation system, accusing management of bias and potentially violating labor rights.

The union also notes that the company has received tax incentives and subsidies from the government, making it responsible for ensuring labor rights are upheld in Gimje.
